1. WHEN & WHERE IS SUMMER CAMP?
- Session #2: Friday, 6/13/2023 — Sunday, 6/22/2023
- Camp: Sawmill
- Campsite: Hawthorne
- Visitor’s Day: Sunday, 6/15/2023
- Camp Scoutmaster: Evan Absher
2. WHY IS SUMMER CAMP SUCH A BIG DEAL?
It’s hard to describe the full experience in a few sentences, but I’ll try—
During our 10-day adventure at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, Scouts earn multiple merit badges, forge deeper friendships with their troop members, and typically advance at least one rank. They learn valuable new skills, build self-confidence, and create lasting memories with plenty of stories to tell. While missing Summer Camp doesn’t mean a Scout should quit Scouting, attending puts them firmly on the path to Eagle—both through advancement and by developing the right mindset.
3. SHOULD PARENTS ATTEND SUMMER CAMP?
Yes! If you can camp with us for a full session, we would be thrilled! It’s a great time to bond with your son, get some fresh air, and get to know other parents in the troop better. We’re a fun bunch too! Oh, and it’s not just a dad thing either — we have a great group of moms and welcome them too!
4. WE NEED HELP FROM NEW PARENTS
If your scout is a 1st-year or 2nd-year camper, would you give some extra consideration to attending camp with us? It really helps the younger scouts to get on the right path, and it allows you to experience all that Troop 16 has to offer. Who knows, you might like it well enough to camp with us monthly! 🙂
5. DO I NEED TO PAY FOR CAMP WHEN I SIGN-UP? ARE “CAMPERSHIPS” AVAILABLE?
Of course, we appreciate payment at the time of sign-up. Nothing says “I’ll be there” like sending a payment. If that’s not an option right now, that’s okay, but please sign-up anyway and pay as soon as you can. If you’ll need a campership, they are available. Please contact me directly at [email protected], and I will be happy to send you the information.
6. CAN SCOUTS OR ADULTS ATTEND PART-TIME?
The short answer is no for Scouts, and yes for adults (age 18+).
Scouts: We ask that all Scouts attend full-time. With a troop our size, it’s impossible to manage check-ins and check-outs throughout the 10 days. At camp, we are constantly checking to make sure everyone is accounted for, and having part-timers makes this really tough. Also, the activities at camp are designed for full-time participation.
Adults: We understand 10 days is a big commitment, so if you can only join us part-time, we’ll take it! That said, we still need you to sign-up, but note there is a part-time rate on our website.
